Highlights

Smart Terrace is a packaged robot system designed to be installed on machine tools (machining centers, lathes, cylindrical grinders, etc.) to automate their operations.

In this post, we’ll introduce two solutions that use Smart Terrace!

1. Automation of Cylindrical Grinding Machines
Featuring two models developed using the “Smart Terrace AIO-S7SF” to achieve automation of cylindrical grinding machines

■Kere Automatic Workpiece Changer
■Robotic Hand Fixed-Dimension Device
This system accommodates a wide range of diameters—from 4 to 50 mm—for cylindrical grinding workpieces. The robotic hand is designed not only for workpiece exchange but also for measurement.
With a measurement accuracy of 2.2 μm at 3σ, it automatically measures up to 10 different diameters.

2. Automation, including Chuck jaw exchange for CNC lathes
Using the “Smart Terrace AIO-M12SF,” we will showcase two types of automated chucks and one reference model.

■HQJC Chuck... Replaces jaws one at a time
■AJC Chuck... Replaces all three jaws at once using an exchange plate
Both chucks offer jaw replacement accuracy of 10 μm or less, and the AJC Chuck is capable of handling round and irregularly shaped workpieces, as well as seat confirmation.

■MAC Chuck (Matsumoto Automatic Chuck Change System) ... Replaces the entire chuck
Are you facing challenges with high-mix production, where the variety of workpiece shapes makes it impossible to machine them all with a single chuck?
The MAC is designed to accommodate different types of chucks, allowing you to swap chucks according to the workpiece and enabling high-mix production with a single machine. At our booth, we will demonstrate the repeatability of the chuck exchange process.

We will also be demonstrating the use of a robot to load and unload lathe tools on this machine.
